McDonald’s, Burger King, and Taco Bell were all persuaded to stop using ammonia-treated meat after the practice of rinsing dog-grade meat with ammonia to wash away harmful bacteria was brought to the attention of consumers by celebrity chef Jamie Oliver. “We’re taking a product that would be sold in its cheaper form for dogs,” said Oliver on his TV show Food Revolution. “After this process, we can give it to humans.” But a USDA spokesman said there were no plans to stop using pink slime as part of the national school lunch program. “The U.S. Food and Drug Administration as well as the Food Safety and Inspection Service considers ammonium hydroxide as ‘generally recognized as safe,’” said the spokesman, Aaron Lavallee. “FSIS reviewed the suitability of Beef Products Inc.’s use of ammonium hydroxide in order to assess its effectiveness in performing the intended technical purpose of use, at lowest level necessary, and to ensure that the product is not adulterated or misleading to consumers.” However, since ammonia beef falls outside the jurisdiction of federal labeling requirements, parents have no way of knowing what exactly is being served to their kids. emmajbeasley: TRIGGER WARNING: Rape, rape culture. My friend sent me this picture last night that he saw on 4Chan. The good news is, it shows that there are some really good people on 4Chan because the poster was blocked afterwards and many people came to my friend’s defense when he commented on the picture explaining slut shaming and rape culture. (Thank you Forrest, for coming to feminism’s aid). That being said, though obviously the majority of people do not think this specific opinion, I think the picture needs to be addressed. Obviously, this is a very extreme thought, but it is not so far off from the opinions of so many people, mainly those of being a ‘slut’ (sexually free), flirting, drinking or choosing revealing clothes makes it impossible for you to actually be raped. I cannot tell you how many times I have heard  ”I’m not promoting rape!” when I tell someone that slut shaming circulates that specific culture. And yes, I do understand you are not saying rape is good or that you are okay with rape. But what you are saying is that it is completely justifiable to hold a person accountable for sexual and physical abuse because of their own choices and freedoms that are a given right to them as a human being. What you are saying, essentially, when you slut shame is what every juror, judge, lawyer and especially rapist have been saying for so long: They lead them/me on because they choose to express their sexuality. This statistic has been said time and time again, 15 out of 16 rapists never spend a day in jail, and that is just the assaults that go reported and where charges are filed. Lawyers use every defense in the book to free someone who brutally rapes another person, and it works.  This all being said, I can only close with this where I can only hope it leaves a bit of an impression for misogynists: We live in a society where women are expected to not get raped, but men are never told not to rape and where the fear of someone lying about rape is a greater fear than someone actually being raped.
